Subject: JOSEPH APPLEBY

Further to my earlier message :- according to 41, 51 and 71 censuses for Hackney Joseph was born about 1811/12, in Warwickshire at Moreton/Marton/Meriden? (difficult to decipher and the county was spelt Warrickshair). When some of his children were baptised his name was given as George and on his death certificate his name was William Joseph!

On the IGI there is a Joseph Appleby b.25-3-1812, bp 11-6-1813 at St. Phillip's, Birmingham, son of Samuel and Hannah. They also appear to have had 3 other children - William (bp 5-10 1809), Sarah (26-12-1814) and George (27-7-1818). There is a marriage for Samuel Appleby and Hannah Worrall at All Saints, West Bromwich on 7-1-1805 and a baptism for a Samuel at St Matthews, Walsall, parents Humphrey and Sarah. While Joseph and his wife Margaret did not name any of their children Samuel or Hannah they did have a Sarah, William and George.

There is also a baptism for a William Appleby, 25-1-1813, at Saint Martin's, Birmingham, parents James and Maria, who also appear to have had children Clarinda and George.

Does anyone know anything about these families that may help me decide if either Joseph or William is my 2xgt grandfather? In 1835 my Joseph married Margaret Hutchins at Shoreditch and lived the rest of his life in the Hackney area.
