G'day Lorraine,
I've no idea if they're connected but my Great Grandfather, Arthur Appleby had a younger brother called Henry Appleby who was born in 1875 at West Mersea in essex County, England. this would make him about 21 years when Sydney Ralph was born, certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. I do not know who he married or even if he did, only his date and place of birth and that his Father was James Appleby and mother was Ann Wagstaff. James and Ann were married in Layer De La Haye in Essex England ( Sounds more like Spain I know )in 1852. Hope there is some connection and that this may help.
