I have no idea if this will help you but I have a
Catharine Appleby (birth parents, date and place unknown.)
that married a Samuel G. Smith
- he was born 1805 in Big Island PA. McKean County.

They had one child Samuel Graves Smith b: 6-16-1838.
I do not have parents names of either Catharine or Samuel.

I just yesterday found them buried at the Buffalo Twp cemetery, outside of what is now known as Hiawatha, Iowa in LINN county, and took a rubbing off their stone. This is near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Their stone states she "died in the 68th year of her age." and was dated 1878. She may have preceeded him as his death age was not listed. Although the stone was made to include it - possibly an oversight at the time of his death.
Also Catharine's first grandson is Named William Will Merritt Smith.he was born April 28, 1860.
I do not know why or when they came to the Covington, Iowa area, but I am assuming that it was for the abundant farmland available at the time.
Kelly Smith-- g,g,g,granddaughter of Catharine Appleby and Samuel Smith.
